This is the "base model" offered by MSR, but it's no slouch on Sierra terrain -- in fact, you’ll find the same UniBody™ Traction as many of MSR's more aggressive models; the best traction when heading up or down even modest slopes in less than ideal conditions is something everyone can appreciate. In addition, weather-resistant, three-strap PosiLock™ binding keep your boots locked in, while Modular Flotation tails give you versatility for varying loads & snow conditions. (Note: this is the current, updated model of the shoes you rent at Ken's).
Steel traction rails and brake bars molded directly into snowshoe decks provide a secure and lasting grip.
PosiLock™ bindings deliver ample, freeze-proof and glove-friendly security, easily accommodating a wide range of footwear.
Modular Flotation tails allow you the maneuverability of a smaller shoe in packed conditions with the added, on-demand flotation of optional, 6-inch (15-cm) tails for powder or carrying heavier loads.

When sizing snowshoes, don't go by the user's "naked" weight - instead, consider the total weight you're asking these snowshoes to carry: the person with all winter clothing, boots, poles, backpack, water, food, etc. And consider snow conditions - if you hike often in deep powder snow, consider a larger size; if you hike mostly on firmer snow, consider a smaller size. Of course, with MSR snowshoes you can add optional "tails" to extend the shoes an additional six inches to support a larger load or venture into softer snow!
